Our Students and Schools

New Orleans’ students are brilliant, creative young people with bright futures ahead of them.

More students are graduating ready for their future than ever before, but we’re not done yet. We have an opportunity to learn from what’s working in our schools—and a responsibility to push for change when there’s room to grow—because when our students succeed, our city is stronger.

New Orleans’ public school system is similar to others nationwide in many ways–we strive to have great schools in every neighborhood of the city, with strong academics, rich extracurriculars, and loving teachers.

We’re also unique. Our system is organized differently from any others nationwide–families across the city have the power to decide the best schools for their children, so they aren’t limited by where they live or how much money they make.

All students deserve an education that equips them with useful skills and prepares them for the future they want—whether they’re planning to go to college or trade school, into the arts, or into the workforce. That’s why we need creative and adaptable schools that meet the needs and feed the passions of our young people.
