Sustainable Schools
We work toward the day when every child in our city attends an excellent school, and when those public schools have what they need to meet their students’ and teachers’ needs.
In our city, schools are funded based on the number of students they serve, and they receive additional funding to support students’ various needs. For example, schools that serve students who require speech therapy, or those who are new to our schools and are still learning English, receive additional funds to cover the costs or providing critical support services so that all students can thrive in our classrooms.
School Support
Over the last few years, our city has seen population decline, which is also reflected in our public school enrollment. As a result, many schools are under-enrolled compared to the number of students they prepare to serve each year. The gaps in enrollment mean they have less funding to provide instruction and enrichment like art, band, and summer school.
