The Impact of Teachers
Teaching is the single most important school-based factor in students’ academic growth. We provide educators with resources, support, community, and celebration of their excellence.
We focus on recruitment and retention of great educators, connecting them with professional development and support, building community, and honoring their incredible work.
Our city’s roughly 3,000 teachers are dedicated, talented, experienced, and diverse.
Our teachers led the New Orleans Public Schools (NOLA-PS) to the 4th highest growth in the state of Louisiana.
Over 73% of our teachers identify as teachers of color.
Recruiting and Retaining Teachers
Nationwide, and in New Orleans, districts are struggling to recruit and retain all the teachers they need. We work to find and develop more great educators for New Orleans’ public schools, and help those educators stay in their roles for long and sustainable careers. We support work like this in part by managing a national SEED grant, which helps pay for programming to recruit, retain, and support teachers.

We support our educators’ professional growth by ensuring they have access to high-quality curricular materials and professional development opportunities in the areas that are most important for our students’ growth.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Teacher Community
We celebrate teachers and honor their hard work through the Allstate Sugar Bowl Teacher Community. The Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Teacher Community presented by NSNO is an inclusive community in which public school educators in New Orleans can collaborate, learn, and grow with each other. This platform is designed to recognize and celebrate our victories and to provide resources, grants and professional development opportunities, while also recruiting and retaining dynamic educators in our city.
Grow Your Own
“Grow Your Own” initiatives, which seek to find great teachers locally, are developing young people to become educators in the very district where they’re currently in school. At NSNO, we raise funds to support these programs.
Each participating school offers education coursework for their students, partners with local elementary schools where students can practice teaching in-person, and offers paid tutoring opportunities as well. In addition to this, students have the opportunity to participate in robust professional development experiences.
