This pandemic is affecting not just our children’s physical health and academic experiences; it is taking a deep emotional toll as well. At New Schools for New Orleans, we believe children’s well-being comes first, and that young people, like adults, learn best when they feel happy, safe, calm, and cared for.
This moment has called for a thoughtful, innovative response from schools and networks as they strive to support students’ mental health from afar. Today, three educators share the steps that they and their teams have taken to do so. We are grateful for their work and for the work of their colleagues in other schools and networks citywide—collectively, they nurture both the hearts and minds of our city’s children.
