We are still excited about the recently released 2024 School Performance Scores (SPS) by the Louisiana Department of Education. The data on New Orleans Public Schools reflects the tangible progress toward our shared goal of ensuring a great school for every child in New Orleans. Congratulations to schools, educators, students, and families for their hard work and incredible achievement.
Notably, for the first time in many years, there are no “F” rated schools (or equivalent) schools in the NOLA-PS district. Additionally, schools in NOLA-PS have now exceeded their pre-COVID (2018-19) performance for all students by more than 6 points. The 2024 District Performance Score increased by 4 points from the previous year and is one point shy of earning a districtwide “B” letter grade. This growth outpaces the state average for the 3rd consecutive year, showcasing the city’s commitment to continual improvement.
Other notable achievements worth celebrating:
- Orleans Parish is one of the top 5 districts in Louisiana for improvement on District Performance Scores (DPS).
- Orleans Parish DPS increased by over 4 points, surpassing the state’s growth of less than 2 points.
Furthermore, Orleans now surpasses its pre-COVID DPS for All Students by more than 6 points, a testament to both students’ and educators’ continued resilience and determination.
The progress on DPS includes all major student subgroups, with economically disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, Black students, Hispanic students, and English language learners all demonstrating notable progress. This growth not only reflects a commitment to equity and belonging but also reinforces our core belief in providing access to quality education for all.
On Top Growth, NOLA-PS outperforms all but two other districts in the state. Top Growth is a measure that the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) uses to help us better understand a school or district’s trajectory for improving outcomes for students over time. This year, we achieved a Top Growth percentage of 52%, ranking Orleans 3rd out of 70 districts. This means more than 1 out of every 2 students is demonstrating Top Growth in NOLA-PS. This growth reflects the hard work of students and educators.
Top Growth for Orleans’ subgroups is also impressive. Orleans has a higher percentage of Top Growth students than the State and all peer districts overall and for all major student subgroups.
This year, 30 open-enrollment New Orleans K-8 schools and 5 open-enrollment New Orleans high schools earned a Top Growth Percentage of 50% or higher.
As we recognize these achievements, we know there is more work to do. As a community, we remain committed to supporting schools and our key system values to drive change and continued progress.
Together, let’s keep fostering innovation and creating transformative change that helps shape a brighter future for all young people in New Orleans.
