Dear Colleagues, Neighbors, and Friends,
This is a heavy moment in heavy times. We know many of you are feeling the weight of it; we are feeling it, too. Between COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida, our community is reeling.
We are thinking of all of you, your families, and our schools’ students, staff, and families. We are working hard to find ways to best support New Orleans’ schools amidst these dual crises. NSNO will do everything in our collective power to support our students and educators through these tough times.
We also want to honor our educators in this moment. They have navigated teaching and supporting our young people through a pandemic, and now they will do so in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane. They are trying to get back to their students and school buildings, while also taking care of themselves and their families’ needs. The mental and physical toll is hard to quantify. We know they also need support, resources, and our unyielding appreciation.
We will make it through this together. We will come out of this stronger. And at NSNO, we will keep you up to date on resources available to our school communities, as well as the actions we will take to be there for our beloved schools.
If you or members of your community are looking for resources, do not hesitate to reach out. You can also check the NOLAReady, FEMA, and NOLA Public Schools websites and social media for ongoing updates.
We remain, as always, for the children,
The New Schools for New Orleans Team
